”Never protect a sick family”

1) Do we need permission to expose family secrets?
No. That’s like seeking permission to heal.

2) Do we owe the readers truth or lies?
We owe ourselves the truth. We’re the reader.

3) Do we further abuse a family by exposing secrets?
No, we further abuse a family by trying to shame the whistle-blower.

4) Do we ever heal a family by pretending memoir is fiction?
No. Lies draw the sick family further into the wilderness.

5) What do we do if our intent is not clear, even to the writer?
Clarify intent, by answering questions such as these. Questions are key.

6) Where do we draw the line? At opening a basement, or an attic too?
The Inner GPS leads the way. Set the intention, follow Inner GPS, trust.
